Musik från ett gammalt gruvtorn

This sound installation features small speaker cones mounted inside "Laven," the mining tower in Ställberg, playing recordings of banging metal. The unusual height and depth one experience upon entering sparked my curiosity about working here. Because of their limited quality you can really hear the physicality of the speaker cones, which I like. As I experimented with the acoustics, I discovered an interesting interplay between the sounds the wind makes in the tower and the sounds emanating from the speakers. This work explores how constructing something within a space can point to what is already there. I encourage you to stay for a few minutes and fully immerse yourself. The sounds are meant to draw attention to specific characteristics of the space, constructing a situation to reveal otherwise unnoticed elements.
