Light Cones will be performed at Rhytms beside Regions.
Heli Hartikainen is a boundary-breaking saxophonist, clarinetist, composer, and sound artist whose aesthetics derive from a pursuit of enduring textures, functions, and forms. As a saxophonist, Hartikainen is a passionate instrumentalist who constantly pushes the boundaries of their instrument (and themselves) ever further. As a composer Hartikainen is interested in the limitless possibilities of electronic manipulation and superimposing avantgarde gestures onto minimalist ambient soundscapes. Experimentation is at the core of Hartikainen’s creative work, where abstractions, meaning-seeking, concepts, and an insatiable love for sound playfully intertwine.

Light Cones

"Time is number of change, with regard to before and after" - Aristotlemov. I: being // ‘the almost nothing’ mov II: waiting mov III: becoming mov IV: entropy mov V: loss of direction // blurThis 20-minute piece draws inspiration from fundamental concepts of physics, such as Planck time (the minimum interval of time) and the absence of a universal present.A light cone is a diagrammatic representation of spacetime, illustrating the temporal structure of the universe. The piece "Light Cones" explores time, memory, and the layering of moments and perspectives. Each movement symbolizes distinct aspects of time, whether in theoretical physics or human perception. As performers progress through the score at their own pace, past, present, and future seamlessly blend together.
