SCHU:NOH

This composition draws inspiration from Japanese Noh theatre, intertwined with elements from the first movement of Robert Schumann's Piano Quintet No. 2 in E-flat major. At its core, Noh theatre embodies the aesthetic principle of "ma," wherein the significance of the space between artistic elements is as crucial as the elements themselves. This interplay is often depicted through transitions from dynamic and rapid sequences to serene and graceful passages. In writing SCHU:NOH, I wanted to capture and reimagine this dynamic interplay within the composition.
