We are happy to present: Composer talk with Tebogo Monnakgotla! No need to register.

In this talk, the Dutch/Swedish musicologist and composer Peter Van Tour leads us through a talk with Swedish composer Tebogo Monnakgotla - with a starting point from her violin concerto Globe Skimmer Surfing the Somali Jet, especially written for world famous young violinist Johan Dalene. The piece is a co-commission by Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Sinfonia Lahti and The BBC Radio 3 and is part of a series of compositions by Monnakgotla on the theme nature/climate change.

Both Monnakgotla and Van Tour are teaching at the Composition Department at The School of Music, Theatre and Art in Örebro (Örebro Musikhögskola).

About Tebogo Monnakgotla

In a review of her opera Jean-Joseph the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter called Tebogo Monnakgotla "one of the most prominent Swedish composers of her generation". Her career took off after she, still a student at the Royal College of Music, won Prize of recommendation in International Rostrum of Composers, the European broadcasting unions competition in contemporary music. Later that year she was selected the Swedish Radio’s composer in residence, a position she held for two years.

With premieres at the Grant Park Festival in Chicago (Marina Piccinini and Andreas Haefliger), with the BBC symphony orchestra (Johan Dalene) and a residence at Tanglewood Monnakgotla is an internationally acclaimed composer.

Tebogo Monnakgotla is especially fond of using poetry in her music and this has led to a longer co-operation with poet Li Li. She also worked with poetry by Oliveira Silveira, late Malagasies poet Jean-Joseph Rabearivelo and others.
