Phineidae will be performed at Harmonies by Horizons.
Arvid Kraft is a composer and writer, interested in how meaning and signification can be manipulated and strengthened through musical and literary means. Thus, Kraft’s music often combines self-written text with his music in order to create abstract literary worlds soaked in sound. He is currently studying his last semester at the Master’s programme “Experimental Composition and Creation” at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg, Sweden. Kraft has had his music performed by renowned ensembles active in contemporary classical music, such as KammarensembleN, Norrbotten NEO, Blåsarsymfonikerna, Uppsala Kammarsolister, and Musica Vitae. His music has been featured at festivals such as ljudOljud in Stockholm, CROSSROADS in Salzburg, Austria, and the Ung Nordisk Musik festival in Reykjavik, Iceland. In addition to his ensemble work, Arvid often performs himself as a sound poet, and has also exhibited his poetry both physically and digitally through different exhibitions. Apart from his own artistic endeavors, Kraft performs regularly with composer Adele Marcia Kosman and has an on going project with dancer and choreographer Ingeborg Zachariassen. Kraft is also a longstanding member of the Swedish UNM board and chairperson of the interdisciplinary art & music group Falabella, based in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Phineidae
“Phineidae – for vocal ensemble” is an inquiry into meaning and non-meaning, an exploration of complex communication patterns which jump between signification and elusiveness. The piece’s three parts – Echo, Desire and Not I – each stage a distinct musical context where speech, words and singing intertwine in order to create a scenario where the concept of communication is constantly torn between signifying semantic and/or symbolic meaning, or perhaps something else entirely.
